Beneficial effects of ozone

Beneficial effects of ozone in relation to health

  • Regulates cellular oxidative stress, helping to strengthen antioxidant factors and to fight an excess of free radicals.
  • Increases O₂ metabolism in cases of tissue hypoxia.
  • Modulates immune activity. Ozone can activate the production of cytokines (interferon, tumour necrosis factor, interleukins, etc.) from monocytes and lymphocytes in peripheral blood. These activated cells are taken up by lymphoid tissue (spleen, bone marrow and lymph nodes), where cytokine release modulates the immune system — very similar to the physiological processes that keep the immune system in an active state.
  • Has a high bactericidal and germicidal power. The germicidal action is based on the formation of molecules such as hydrogen peroxide and highly reactive free radicals, which are especially toxic to anaerobic microorganisms that lack the enzymatic systems to break them down.
  • Is a circulatory activator. After treatment, blood improves its ability to circulate through the narrower microcapillaries, improving microcirculation.
  • Improves cellular oxygenation. Softened, disaggregated red blood cells absorb and transfer oxygen better; arterial oxygen pressure increases while venous pressure decreases, with an observed rise in 2,3-DPG that facilitates oxygen transfer.
  • Is a powerful analgesic and anti-inflammatory, with effects comparable to a corticosteroid but without its side effects.
  • Stimulates tissue regeneration.

This information is educational. Ozone therapy is a complementary, adjunctive medical treatment and should be performed by a licensed physician. It does not replace a personalised medical evaluation.
